People of Peace
In a world of hate and division, we should be a people of peace. But the problem is: we are not immune to the waves of culture that are crashing all around us. I do not know how to escape the news and social media that want to push us into our corners, either ready for fight or flight.
It is when I am at a loss for what to do that I turn to the Psalms:
Sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the whole earth.
Sing to the Lord and bless his Name;
proclaim the good news of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations
and his wonders among all peoples.
For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised;
he is more to be feared than all gods.
As for all the gods of the nations, they are but idols;
but it is the Lord who made the heavens.
Oh, the majesty and magnificence of his presence!
Oh, the power and the splendor of his sanctuary! – Psalm 96:1-6
No matter what happens in presidential elections. No matter who is appointed to the Supreme Court. No matter the politics around the pandemic. No matter the issues of race and racism. WHATEVER is swirling around us we CAN sing to the Lord a new song! We CAN bless his name! We CAN proclaim the good news of salvation!
If we could but see the majesty and magnificence, the power and splendor of our God, all the rest would be put in perspective . . .
